Artist Statement
While
working in medical publications design at SK&F Laboratories
(a Philadelphia pharmaceutical company) in the late 1960s,
I attended the evening division of the Philadelphia
Museum College of Art, Tyler
School of Art and Samuel
S. Fleisher Art Memorial. My main goal was to work in advertising
as a designer. Soon after, I worked as a graphics designer
and art
and print buyer for a medical publisher in northern New Jersey
on a national medical journal named Consultant Magazine. Due
to personal reasons I left that job in the 1970s and returned
to work in Philadelphia for the APCL&K Advertising Agency
and then National Advertising before returning to SK&F
in 1980. I married and raised three beautiful girls.
Upon retiring from
SK&F at the end of 2003, I took an
oil painting refresher course on Long Beach Island, NJ. I now
devote most of my time to drawing, painting and photography.
In my quest to perfect my painting style, I study the light
and shadow techniques of such masters as Clark Hulings, Andrew
Wyeth, Rembrandt and Salvador Dali. I draw from life and then
usually photograph in detail my subject matter. I then paint
in my studio and often change the light of the day or change
day to night to fit the mood or drama that I am trying to obtain.
